Back in lower Michigan, we headed back to Sleeping Bear Dunes National
Lakeshore to camp, hoping (in vain) to find a spot with fewer mosquitoes.
The first thing we did was climb Sleeping Bear Dune, a popular activity
for all sorts of experienced climbers.
Rod was quite overdressed, in comparison to many climbing the dune.
Glen Lake from the top of Sleeping Bear Dune.
Back to the overlook on the scenic drive, this time with more scenery
in the foreground, and a less visible Lake Michigan shore in the background.
From our campsite, we hiked out to the shore.
This is a view looking south along the shore, littered with dead alewives.
Dead fish, for those who are less informed, make for a shoreline with
small numbers of people (desirable), but large numbers of flies (not
desirable>.
View looking north along the lakeshore, just a little farther inland from
the previous shot, so the dead fish are not as visible, and the mosquitoes
are starting to compete with the flies over who has dining rights to the
foolish hiker.
